2012 Tom Collins Memorial Scholarship
Thomas Lynn Collins was known as a master artist and craftsman. Tom was a founding member of the Rockwall Art League in 1999. A talented and prolific artist, he was a good friend to many of the league's members and mentored many interested art students and enriched the community. His family set up the original scholarship fund upon his death and it has been continued and maintained by the Rockwall Art League in Tom's memory becuase of his devotion to the arts and the city of Rockwall.
This year the scholarship amount will be $1,000. It is with great pleasure that we announce Naomi Ruiz as the recipient of our 2011 Tom Collins Memorial Scholarship. Naomi will be attending the Virginia Commonwealth University in the fall and plans to major in graphic design. Darlene Dittoe, current past-president of RAL, presented Naomi with her scholarship award on June 2 at the Rockwall ISD High School Awards Ceremony.
2012 ROCKWALL COUNTY GRADUATING SENIORS:
The Tom Collins Memorial Scholarship is intended for students seeking higher education in a FINE ARTS or DESIGN related field (excluding performance art) and is open to all public, private, and home schooled graduating seniors in Rockwall County.
The Rockwall Art League is a non-profit organization established in 2000 in Rockwall, Texas. The purpose of the Rockwall Art League is to create a forum for area artists to share ideas, communicate, support each other, and brings an awareness of fine art to the community and to provide scholarships to support the efforts of talented high school students. These goals are being realized through annual exhibits, programs, artist demonstrations and the Tom Collins Memorial Scholarship.
The 2012 Rockwall Art League Tom Collins Memorial Scholarship for $1000 is available to any Rockwall graduating senior meeting the following criteria and submitting an application to the Rockwall Art League: Graduating seniors planning a career in 2-D, 3-D, graphic arts or an art-related field requiring higher education are eligible for this scholarship. It is not available for performance art or animation.
Include a list of art classes taken in high school or privately, with a brief course description of each. Submit a portfolio containing a minimum of 6 - 8 recent examples of your 2-D or 3-D artwork in either photograph or CD format. Please note that these examples are the only visual criteria used by the evaluation committee and should be well-photographed and of good quality. Please include a list describing each example, including its size, medium and whether the example was a class project or independent work.
The deadline of March 9, 2012 applies to RHS, RHHS, private school and home school students. RHS and RHHS students must also submit the completed application to their counselors by March 9. No submissions dated after midnight on March 9 will be accepted.
